23.08.17 – DIPLOMATIC DUO


WOMANZ are privileged to have a fantastic “diplomatic duo” as our next keynote speakers – Chris Seed, New Zealand High Commissioner to Australia based in Canberra and Holly Bennett, Ministerial Advisor based in Wellington.

Prior to becoming New Zealand High Commissioner to Australia in 2013, Chris was a Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and was in the Ministry of Defence. He also served with the International Peace Monitoring Team in the Solomon Islands and the New Zealand delegation to the UN General Assembly and undertook interesting assignments in Tehran, London and Papua New Guinea.

Holly Bennett is a young lawyer of Maori ethnicity. She is a descendant of Tamatekapua, the Chieftain of Te Arawa, one of New Zealand's founding waka.

Holly attended the University of Auckland, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws. She has been admitted to the bar and holds a current practising certificate. She began her career at the Manukau District Court where she worked as a jury trial registrar, followed by a short stint in policy. She now works in the Beehive as a Ministerial Advisor.

Both high achievers at different phases of their careers in the New Zealand government, Chris and Holly bring diverse perspectives to their important work. Join us to hear about their personal journeys and fascinating career highlights.

About our speakers: Chris Seed commenced duties as the New Zealand High Commissioner to Australia in November 2013.Prior to taking up this position he was a Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and previously worked in the Ministry of Defence.

His earlier career included assignments in Tehran, Canberra, London and Papua New Guinea, where he was High Commissioner. In addition to a number of roles in Wellington, he also served with the International Peace Monitoring Team in the Solomon Islands, the New Zealand delegation to the UN General Assembly and was seconded to the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Holly Suzanne Bennett is a 26 year old lawyer of Maori ethnicity. She is a descendant of Tamatekapua, the Chieftain of Te Arawa, one of New Zealand's founding waka. Holly was born in Auckland in 1990 and attended the University of Auckland, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws. She has been admitted to the bar and holds a current practising certificate. She has lived in Wellington for nearly four years and works in the Beehive as a Ministerial Advisor. Holly grew up in an active family, swimming competitively, playing netball, and weightlifting. She is an avid fan of documentaries, in particular crime biopics and owns a pure-bred Bengal cat called Django.
