Congratulations to our sponsor Herbert Smith Freehills – 2017 firm of the Year
Herbert Smith Freehills has been recognised as the 2017 Firm of the Year at the annual Australasian Law Awards.
The hotly contested awards were presented at a gala event attended by the who’s who of the legal industry in Sydney on 19 May. They recognise the leading law firms, in-house counsel and legal practitioners across Australia in a range of categories.
Accepting the award on the evening, Sue Gilchrist, Herbert Smith Freehills’ Managing Partner for Asia and Australia, said: “Recognition as the Law Firm of the Year (>500 employees) is a great tribute to our clients and our people, and to the innovative and collaborative way in which we all work together to achieve mutual success.
“This coveted accolade reinforces the value and benefits of our unwavering focus on delivering exceptional service to our clients while fostering a positive, collaborative, diverse and inclusive culture.
“The legal market today, both domestically and internationally, is more highly competitive than ever before. Achievements like this are not easy to come by, and are the result of a whole lot of really hard work by a great number of dedicated professionals.”
Ms Gilchrist went on to congratulate the other winners on the night from industry competitors, peers and colleagues, and client organisations.
Herbert Smith Freehills also won four other awards on the night. Partner Philippa Stone was the recipient of the highly sought-after Dealmaker of the Year Award and the firm was recognised for the key roles it played in the M&A Deal of Year – the acquisition of Asciano by Brookfield and Qube; the overall Deal of the Year, for the same matter; and the Insolvency & Restructuring Deal of the Year – Arrium Group insolvency.
Well done Nick Baker and team!
